This lecture-concert is the result of the ClarkeSources research project, which aims to compare violist and composer Rebecca Clarke’s manuscripts with printed editions. This approach highlights differences in playing indications (fingering, breathing, tempi). It provides the performer with keys to understanding Clarke’s specific vision of her instrument, allowing them to develop a personal and informed interpretation.
The Sonata for Viola and Piano will be the focus of this lecture, with the presentation of:
– manuscripts
– personal scores annotated by Clarke
– viola/piano musical excerpts
